Foothold Foundations works to foster public health equity. Health is a human right, and we believe that every child deserves an equal chance to live a healthy life.
The activities and organizations we support are driven by racial, gender, and socio-economic equity. We partner with organizations to provide opportunities for children to thrive by scaffolding infant nutrition, education, arts programming, wellness initiatives, and environmental improvement projects. We strive to lessen the racial and socio-economic disparity in access to health, education, and wellness. Our partner organizations were selected based on their outstanding ability to deliver impactful and concrete interventions. We are dedicated to our active pursuit in researching the work of institutions, and are proud to secure futures one donation at a time.
Mission
Programs
Birth Across Borders
To mitigate the linguistic barriers to maternity care experienced by refugees in Uganda, we created birth translation cards. Working with linguist, Matthew Rugomoka Wabunoha, cards containing translations from English and Luganda to Swahili and French were created and distributed to all hospitals in the Kampala district. This program is expanding, and will continue to work to identify and serve populations who could benefit from birth translation cards.
Healthy Harlem Babies
This program provides safe infant care and infant nutrition workshops for Black expectant birthing people in Central Harlem. Free group sessions led by doulas and lactation consultant are offered to expectant people. The aim of this program is to increase healthy birth outcomes to infants and mothers of color in Central Harlem.
